BIRAX Conference 2018
British Council Israel and the UK Science and Innovation Network (SIN) hosted the fourth BIRAX Conference. The conference was the first BIRAX conference that focused on the ageing process and its impact on human health.
The conference, which was held at King’s College London from the afternoon of Tuesday 4 September to Thursday 6 September 2018, was attended by leading researchers from the UK and Israel.
BIRAX funds cutting-edge collaborative research projects. In the last six years BIRAX focused on regenerative medicine, and committed over 7 million pounds to support 19 projects tackling some of the world’s most dreadful diseases.
What were the objectives?
The Scientific Committee designed the conference with two main objectives:
- To provide a platform for scientists involved in ageing research to share ideas and best practice
- To establish and strengthen scientific partnerships between leading British and Israeli researchers, including links that could translate into submissions to the next bilateral BIRAX Ageing call for proposals.
What did the conference consist of?
The interdisciplinary programme consisted of plenary lectures, as well as opportunities to network and hold informal discussions with other participants. Speakers and delegates from a wide variety of fields added value to the discussions.
We are proud of our partnership with Elsevier’s Journal, Experimental Gerontology, who will have Special Issue dedicated to our meeting. Speakers and early career researchers presenting at the conference were invited to submit abstracts, original research and reviews. The Special Issue will be published early 2019.
